What is Affiliate Marketing?

If you follow a link from this website (or any other involved in an affiliate marketing program) and purchase a product, the vendor will pay a commission to the website owner. In this respect it is no different from traditional “bricks and mortar” businesses e.g. travel agents, financial advisers and insurance brokers, but replaces the shop or office with a website. The buyer will not be charged any more than they would have had they arrived at the vendors website directly as merchants build the commission into their selling price from the outset, if no affiliate is involved they keep the commission themselves.
